Storyteller's Universe // See Through
Full Moon

We’re deep in the forest near Nix, Asher just knocked on the door of the log cabin that presumably belongs to a local werewolf. It is very well put together, definitely not the usual squalor most lycanthropes tend to live in.

The door opens, revealing a short black bunny in a pink bathrobe. She looks sort of unkempt.

“Oh.”

“Locals told us of a werewolf, we’re looking for them.”

“Uhh… Y-yeah, that’s me.”

Asher looks at me, he’s clearly surprised. I send him a condescending look back.

“Charlie! I’m sorry, I mean, I’m Charlie.”

Awkward silence ensues. I nudge Asher with my elbow.

“Ah, I’m Arie- I’m Asher, sorry, that’s Ariel. We would like to ask some questions about the recent mass unveiling event.”

She steps aside, suppose that’s an invitation to come in. I walk inside and Asher follows me after a brief hesitation. This is the most curious lycanthrope’s den I’ve ever seen. The fact that the cabin is clean, nicely decorated and feels homely is already weird, but the gaming PC setup with three monitors that sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise rustic home is just beyond unusual.

“I’m sorry for the mess, I wasn’t expecting guests…”

“No no, it’s fine, it’s very clean!”

“I haven’t had guests in a while, I would’ve prepared something to eat.”

“Please don’t worry about that, we already had lunch.”

I eye Asher. I’m taking the reins, I don’t want to spend the whole fucking day exchanging pleasantries.

“Charlie, did anything unusual happen lately, especially around the time everyone in Nix got unveiled?”

“Umm… Did Rudy not tell you?”

“Who?”

“Like uhh… A white fluffy dog? Very tall, good fashion sense.”

I shake my head, I have no idea who she’s talking about.

“Y-you’re with the Contractors, right?”

“No, we’re with the Paranormal Events Response and Surveillance Agency.”

She looks a bit startled, clearly not what she was expecting. Good job Asher, I wish your corporate attitude kicked in a few minutes earlier.

“Do not be afraid Charlie, Contractors are the ones who tipped off PERSA and we’re now investigating what caused the mass unveiling. We hope we can prevent it from happening elsewhere in the future.”

The rabbit looks at me, then at Asher. Asher sends her a smile, the first time I’ve seen this asshole look in any other way than tired. She seems to ease up on us a bit.

“...Okay. I umm… I don’t really know what happened, I was transformed at the time.”

“How does that work?”

I gesture for Asher to cut it off. What has gotten into this guy? Unprofessional piece of shit.

“Anything unusual leading up to or after the unveiling? Please, anything could help.”

Charlie thinks for a moment before pointing to a calendar on the wall. She comes up to it and turns the page to last month, every day is crossed out except six days near the end.

“The full moon began early. Three or four days earlier, then lasted till when it was supposed to. I really wish I could help more, I don’t remember anything when I’m transformed.”

“I know. This is already a huge help, thank you. I would also like to ask about this Rudy person you mentioned. When did they arrive here?”

“I think… about a week after the unveiling?”

I turn to Asher, he turns to me when I do so. Good, at least he’s still paying attention.

“That checks out?”

“Yes, that’s about the time we got tipped off by the Contractors.”

“I assume you talked to that agent. What were they doing here? If they came here they might’ve had a reason related to the unveiling. Did they mention any details?”

“I… I don’t know if I can tell you.”

“Please, if Contractors didn’t want us to be here and investigating, they wouldn’t have told us about it.”

“...I think that makes sense… But honestly, they asked similar questions to yours, except I think they knew what they were looking for? I don’t remember them telling me much more, I’m sorry.”

“That’s alright, I think you’ve told us plenty. If we have further questions, are you okay with us visiting you again?”

“...Yeah. I can give you my Chat nickname, you won’t have to walk all the way here.”

“That would help!”

“Absolutely not, thank you for your time Charlie.”

I grab Asher by his elbow and drag him out of the cabin. When the bunny closes the door behind us I smack the fox in the back of his head.

“What’s wrong with you?! What the fuck was that for?!”

“I thought both of us want to be done as fast as possible, yet you find time to act like a horny teenager. Keep it in your pants, asshole.”

Asher doesn’t say a word to me throughout the entire walk back to Nix.
